Ectodermal Dysplasia Teeth | The impact of Prosthodontics to change someone's life forever
Management of Ectodermal Dysplasia teeth
Prosthodontists get involved in the care of patients with Ectodermal Dysplasia very because lack of teeth can have a significant impact on those touched by this disorder.
Teeth play a significant role in a person’s ability to live a healthy, happy life. Not only do teeth help with speaking, eating, and smiling, but they hold the face in shape, and become critical to making them feel confident and accepted as they are exposed to social settings with others.
Georgia Prosthodontics is a proud partner of the National Foundation for Ectodermal Dysplasia dental treatment center program.
Our team brings their expertise and support to those families in our community touched by these disorders.
We are also supported by our Dental Lab – Prostholab.

Young People with Dentures | Joanee's Case
As soon as we heard about Joanee’s case, we knew we had to do whatever it took to help find a solution for her and her family. So, we did a digital scan of her mouth, and, realizing it was very similar in size and shape to Dr. Carlos Castro’s daughter’s mouth. Dr. Castro decided to scan her own daughter’s teeth and use them as a model to create a custom set of dentures for Joanee.
“This had never been done before, but I knew I had the technology, the skills, and the team to make it happen.” Dr. Castro said.
We were able to fabricate these tiny Dentures that were replicas of Dr. Castro’s daughter’s teeth and use them to change Joanee’s life for the better. When we got Joanne into the office, she accepted the teeth immediately.
Dr. Castro said, “Fitting the dentures into Joanee’s mouth was probably the most emotional moment of my career.” She looked so happy. Her parents and our team were all in tears, and we knew that all our efforts had been worthwhile.
As Joanee grows, we will work with her and her family to create new dentures that fit her mouth and face as they develop. We will closely monitor Joanee until she is 17 or 18 years old and she stops growing, at which point she will be eligible for permanent Dental Implants.
The Benefits of Dentures in Young People
Younger patients may feel especially sensitive about their appearance, which can affect them emotionally and psychologically. As prosthodontists, we can help assess the needs of your child and work with you to find a solution that is best for you and your family long-term. Here are some ways that dentures can improve your child’s life.
